Diese zwei kleinen geklauten Bildchen zeigen leider nicht die erhabene Macht dieses fast unbezwingbaren Riesen. Die letzten Tage erinnerte mich mein Arbeitstisch immer mehr an einen nicht schaffbaren Gipfel. Die Zeit läuft, es herrscht ein rauhes Klima, mein Seilgefährte hilft mir mit weisen Sprüchen von Etappe zu Etappe, die Luft da oben wird dünner und ich beiße fest meine Zähne zusammen um durchzuhalten. Ich will nicht zu den armen Opfern dieses Berges gehören, die ihr Leben dort im ewigen Eis ließen.

These two photos don't really show you the full power of these unscalable giants. In the past few days, my desk has been resembling an unreachable summit. Time goes by, the weather front turns rough, my climbing partner helps me along from on stage to the other with dicta of wisdom, the air above gets thinner and I grit my teeth and hold on through. I don't want to become one of the poor victims of this mountain who left their lives there in the eternal ice.

Der Kampf mit meiner selbst auferlegten To-Do-Liste spürt sich an wie das Pendant zum Iron-Man. Durchtrainierte Handgelenke, Hornhaut an den Fingern und der Wille zum Durchhalten und Siegen. Kommt das bekannt vor? Machen wir nächste Vorweihnachtszeit die Knitting-Woman-Awards? Aber bitte nicht als Austragungsort den Fuß des Mount Everest!

The fight with my own to-do-list feels like a training to become the next iron-man. Trained sleek wrists, calluscs on the fingers and the will to hold hrough and win. Does that seem familiar to you? Are we going to do the Knitting-Woman-Awards before next Christmas? But please, don't use the steps of Mount Everest as the competing grounds!

Schwarze Socken für einen speziellen Herren. Das ist wahre Schwesterliebe, abends mit neuer Lesebrille und trotzdem halb blind unzählige runtergefallene Maschen wieder hoch zu holen. Noch ein größerer Liebesbeweis: Ihm nicht zu erzählen wie schlimm es war.

Black socks for a special Mister. This is the true sister-love: Picking up uncountable fallen stitches blindly in the evening in spite of the new reading glasses. And even a bigger proof of love: Not to tell him how bad it was.

Stulpen mit einem Muster das ich von Marion habe, sie bekam es wiederum von einer Freundin und irgendwo im Netz las ich daß es "Bremermuster"? heißt. Es strickt sich einfach, hat aber eine enorme dreidimensionale Wirkung. Chapeau vor dem Erfinder/in! Als Zierde häkelte ich noch kleine antike Silberperlen auf.

Wrist warmers with a pattern that I got from Marion. She got it in turn from a girl friend and I read from somewhere in the net that it is called "Bremer pattern". It's an easy knit, but it has a great 3-D effect. Chapeau for the creater! I crocheted the antique silver beads on as decoration.

Das sind die altbekannten "blossom feets" in neuer Farbzusammenstellung. Ein weinig Kürbis, dazu Brombeere, Rosenrot und ein paar kleine Tupfer Moosgrün. Wie immer bei meinen Bildern in Wirklichkeit etwas dezenter.

This is our old friend "Blossom Feet" in a new colour combination. A bit of "Kürbis", and with it "Brombeere", "Rosenrot" and a bit of moss-green droplets. Like all of my photos, it looks more decent in the reality.

4. Basis-Camp erreicht: Die Luft wird dünner und meine Sherpas in Form von Schokolade oder anderen Muntermachern blieben in Basis-Camp 3 zurück

Ich weiß es wird langweilig, der zweite rote Wrap. Diesmal aber passend und morgen geht er auf die Reise nach Neuseeland. Hi Elizabeth, how are you?

I know it's getting boring with the second red Wrap. This time it fits and it's going off on a trip to New Zealand. Hi Elizabeth, how are you?

Mehr schaffte ich noch nicht und langsam wird es kritisch, ab morgen reichen meine Finger um die Tage abzuzählen. Die Zahlen auf meinem Adventskalender hängen mir auch tagtäglich bedrohlich vor Augen. Kinder weggehört, bei meinem Kalender haben wir schon den 18.( leer).

I can't manage any more than that and slowly it's becoming critical. From tomorrow on, I can count the days on my fingers. The numbers on my Advent Calendar roll by threateningly before my eyes. Kids, don't listen to this: On my calendar, we already have the 18th (alsready empty)

Eigentlich habe ich ja gar nicht mehr so viel Strickarbeit, wenn Klein Ida nicht so schnell gewachsen wäre und ich nicht noch einmal das RVO-Jäckchen beginnen müßte. In Sauerlach, auf der Niklausdult, zeigte mir eine Frau ein grünes Erstlingsjackerl so wie dieses mit einer Kapuze. Das war so ein niedliches Zwergerl-Outfit, es fehlte nur noch der Fliegenpilz unter dem das Zwergerl liegt. Kismet? Soll das nächste Grün werden?

Actually I don't have that much knitting work to do any more, if it weren't for the little Ida growing up so fast and if I wouldn't even have to re-start the RVO-jacket again. At the Nikolausdult in Sauerlach a lady showed me a green primer jacket, like this one, with a hood. It was such a cute little midget outfit....missing only the flying mushroom under which the midget would be resting. Kismet? Should the next one be green?

Tja dann liegt da noch ein Wellenschal unvollendet. Es ist das Pfauenschweifmuster kraus rechts gestrickt aus einem hellen und einem dunklen Raku-Regenbogen. Es hapert "nur" noch an den I-Cord Fransen mit Blumen. Kein ungewöhnliches Phänomen bei mir, sobald es dem Ende zugeht verläßt mich der Ansporn.

Well, then there is the unfinished Wave Scarf. It's the Feather and Fan pattern using garter stitch in a light and dark version of Raku-Regenbogen. It's making problem "only" on the I-Cord fringes with flowers. Not that unusual a phenomenon with me: As fast as the finishing line is approaching, so would the incentive leave me.

Zu guter Letzt mein Ewigkeitswerk, lauter kleine Pullover die es an den Adventskranz nicht schafften. Lohnt sich sowieso nicht mehr, zumal ich heuer nicht mal einen Adventskranz besitze. Die nächstliegende Idee war der Christbaum, dazu hätte ich aber gerne noch Schals und Mützen und Mini-Fäustlinge.

And last, my eternal work: All these tiny pullover that didn't make it to the Advent wreath. It's not even worth it anyway, since I don't even have a wreath this year. The next closest idea was the Christmas tree, but for that I would still need scarves, hats and mini-mittens.

Nächstes Jahr, selbe Zeit, sprechen wir weiter!

Möbius-Wrap-Rezept

Endlich habe ich "Ihn" fertig und bräuchte einen ordentlichen Namen für meinen Möbius-Wrap. Angesichts des Malheurs, welches sich nach dem Abketten offenbarte, tendiere ich zu "zweifacher Toe Loop" oder "doppelter Rittberger". Wie behauptete ich bei den Blossom Feets so kess:

"wenn es nicht so aussieht, seid flexibel...."?

Finally I finished "it"! And now I need a proper name for my Moebius Wrap.
Because of the Malheurs that came with the cast-off, I'm leaning towards the names "Two-time Toe Loop" or "Double Knigth-Salvager". Like I perkily have noted with my Blossom Feet:
"When it doesn't seem like so, then be flexible..."?

Nicht ganz so elegant wie beim Eislauf, entpuppte sich bei meinem Neuen eine doppelte Verknotung, upps! Wie ich das schaffte ist mir immer noch nicht ganz klar, aber es passierte. Mit viel Optimismus erkenne ich natürlich sofort die Vorzüge, die sich dadurch ergeben. Das Ding hält endlich an der Scheiderbüste und rutscht nicht ewig herunter. Ich kann es so drapieren wie es mir gefällt (nur nicht an mir) und wieder fällt mir eine Episode aus Forrest Gump ein

"shit happens".
Nun gut, falls Ihr mir bei meiner Anleitung vertraut, achtet bitte auf das Schließen der Anschlagrunde und vergewissert Euch bitte bei seriösen Möbius-Strickanleitungen.

Not as elegant as ice-skating...my new one turned out with two twists - oops! How I got around to that is still not very clear to me but it happened. With a lot of optimism I however recognised immediately the advantages that came with it. The thing finally holds on to your breasts and doesn't constantly slip down. I can drape it as I want (and not only on myself) and then I can remember another episode from Forrest Gump: "Shit happens".
Oh well, if you trust me on my instructions, then please watch out when you're joining to knit in the round and do some research on other proper Moebius instructions.

Bevor wir so richtig starten, sollten wir die one-row-buttonholes aus dem FF können:
Nehmt für die Probeknopflöcher Garnreste, diese Knopflöcher trennen sich nur schwer auf.
Für das Probefleckerl schlagen wir ca. 20 oder mehr Maschen an und stricken ein paar Reihen, um genügend Masse in den Händen zu halten, an der wir uns auslassen können.
Für das erste 10 Maschen Knopfloch, um es mittig zu setzen, werden fünf Maschen gestrickt. Das ist die Pool-Position für den Beginn:

Before we begin, we should be able to do the one-row-button holes first: Take some waste yarn for the sample button holes, because button holes are generally hard to frog. For this sample, we'll cast-on about 20 + stitches and knit for a few rows, so that we have enough fabric to hold in the hand, on which we can experiment. For the first 10-stitch button hole, 5 stitches will be knit, so that it will sit in the middle. This is the pool-position for the beginning:

Erste Masche wie zum Links-Stricken abheben. Der Faden liegt vor der Nadel und wird vorn um die Masche links herum geführt, um zwischen dieser und der folgenden Masche hinten hängen gelassen zu werden. Wir würdigen diesen Faden keines Blickes mehr und halten ihn auch nicht mehr in der Hand.

Slip the first stitch purl-wise with the yarn in front. The yarn will be wrapped around the fron of the slipped stitch and will be come to rest in the back, between this slipped stitch and the next un-knit stitch. We're not going to bother with this yarn anymore and will leave it hanging there.

Unsere erste Masche wird über die folgende Masche abgekettet, in dem wir sie einfach darüber ziehen. Auf genau die gleiche Art und Weise verfahren wir mit insgesamt zehn Maschen.
Nun wird das Strickstück gewendet, das vergessene Fädchen hängt links von uns. Wir nehmen es wieder auf und stechen auf der linken Nadel zwischen die letzte und vorletzte Masche um das Fädchen hervor zu holen und es als neue Masche auf die linke Nadel aufzunehmen. Dieser Vorgang wird 11mal wiederholt!!!! Nein, nicht nur 10mal! Die Extramasche braucht man um sie als Übergang oder Verbindung bei der Knopflochanschlußstelle über die nächste Masche zu stülpen.

The first (slipped) stitch will be passed over the second (i.e. bound off). And with the same method we will bind off 10 stitches altogether. Turn your work. The working yarn will be hanging to the left. We will now take it up again. Insert the needle between the last two stitches, make a loop of the working yarn around the needle and take it to the front in order to make a new stitch. Repeat this processs 11 times! No, not only 10 times!! The extra stitch is needed as a connection to the closing point of the button hole to put over the next stitch.

Das war mit wenigen Worten das einreihige Knopfloch. Strickt ein paar Reihen darüber und kontrolliert ob es wie ein Knopfloch aussieht. Bei Ungewißheiten schaut lieber noch einmal das Video von www.knittinghelp.com an, die perfekte Aufklärungsseite für viele andere Strickmysterien.

Die exakten Strickanweisungen für meinen roten Wrap:

Die Verteilung der Knopflöcher, so wie ich sie machte, ist nicht zwingend notwendig und auch nicht identisch mit dem ersten Wrap. Verteilt sie nach Euerem eigenen Geschmacksempfinden. Sehr schön würden auch symetrisch gesetzte Löcher nach zwei Reihen aussehen, oder baut Euch Riesenknopflöcher an den entsprechenden Stellen ein, um sie als Armausschnitte zu benutzen.

The exact knitting instruction for my red Wrap:

The distribution of the button holes as I did it isn't strictly neccessary and it isn't even identical to my first wrap. Just distribute them according to your taste. Symmetrically distributed holes in every second row would also look very pleasing. Or just put in giant button holes in the proper places and use those as arm holes.

Anschlag 210 Maschen über zwei Nadeln in der Farbe Dornröschen.
Den Anschlag so halten als würde man die Runde schließen und aus der festen Anschlagkante ebenfalls 210 Maschen aufnehmen. Auf der Nadel sind nun 420 Maschen und eine Drehung ist erkennbar. Beginn und Ende der Runde mit einem Maschenmarkierer kennzeichnen.

Cast on 210 stitches over 2 needles in the colourway "Dornröschen". The cast-on should be held as though you're going to join for the round, pick up and knit another 210 stitches from the cast-on edge. There should be 420 stitches on the needles altogether. You should be able to see a twist. Mark the beginning and the end of the round with a stitch marker.

Wildes Markttreiben

Lange ist es her seit ich den letzten Eintrag schrieb. Nein, der Siegerruhm stieg mir nicht zu Kopf und ich halte es auch nicht wie James Dean um abzutreten wenn es am Schönsten ist. Vielmehr bin ich wie diese Jungs zur Zeit ständig "on tour".

It's been a long time ever since I've written the last post. No, the winner gleam didn't go to my head and I don't intend to follow James Dean in standing down at the height of it all. At the moment I'm more like these guys, being constantly "on tour".

Nun verstehe ich es immer besser warum sie so aussehen wie sie aussehen, das fahrende Volk führt ein anstrengendes Leben. Nicht nur bei meinen Färbehandschuhen ist Materialmüdigkeit zu beobachten, bei mir auch.

Now I understand why they look like as they look like. These folks have quite a hard life. Not only is material lassitude noticeable on my dyeing gloves, but the fatigue is also apparent on myself.

Oh ich beklage mich nicht! In meinen kühnsten Träumen hätte ich mir früher niemals vorstellen können was alles an Erlebnissen in ein paar kurze Tage gepackt sein kann, daß jeder einzelne Markt sich vom anderen unterscheidet und man trotz bester Vorbereitung Überraschungen erlebt. Vom kochenden Kühler im Stau bei der Anreise, bis Abbau im Dunkeln bei Regen war letzten Monat alles dabei. Lautstarke Begrüßungen von Freunden, die man leider zu selten und nur bei den Veranstaltungen sieht. Anregende und tolle Begegnungen mit Wollsüchigen, wie ich es selbst ja auch bin, finde ich am allerschönsten und so redet man den ganzen Tag und die Zeit vergeht wie im Flug.

Oh, I'm not complaning! In my wildest dreams I would never have been able to imagine all the kinds of experiences that can be packed in to the last few days; that each individual market would be so different from one another and that there will be surprises even with good planning. Everything was there in the last month, from a boiling cooling unit in traffic jam at arrival time to disassembling and packing up in the rainy darkness. Greetings from friends who you unfortunately get to see only too seldomly and only at exhibitions. The greatest ones are those exciting and great meetings with wool-addicts - like the one that I am -, and you ended up talking the whole day and the time just flew by.

Zum Fotografieren komme ich leider nur sehr selten, diese Bilder mußte ich aber festhalten. Junges Volk über Wollkörben! Die zwei jungen Herren kauften sich "Frosch"Wolle für eine Mütze, besser gesagt nur einer der beiden, während der zweite beratend unterstützte. Echt lässig Jungs!

I hardly got around to taking photos, but I had to take these. Youngsters hovering over yarn baskets! The two young men bought "Frosch" for a beany, well, actually only one of them, while the second was supportively giving advice. Really great guys!

Ihr seht, mir wird es nicht langweilig. Mein Möbiusversprechen halte ich aber, die Knäuel sind gewickelt und gestern Abend begann ich die ersten Maschen anzuschlagen.

As you can see, I don't get bored. I'm still keeping my promise for the Moebius; the skeins are wound and last evening, I started to cast-on the first stitches.

Tatsächlich ist dies der zweite Wettbewerb in meinem Leben, den ich gewann. Sieger beim Würschtlschnappen auf Kindergeburtstagen zählt nicht. Der erste Contest handelte um "das häßlichste Strickteil" bei der Strickliesl.

Actually that's the second competition in my life that I've won. Being the winner at "catching the sausage" on a children's birthday party doesn't count. The first competition was about "the most ugliest knit item" with the knitting puppet.

This picture is pretty close to the original one which has already been disposed of.

Wischmöppchen war wirklich schrecklich und die vollkommene Fehlplanung. Einst sollte es eine lange Bahn, gefilzt aus edlem KidMohair, für eine Weste werden. Übrig blieb ein flusendes Etwas in gräulich Blau/Grün.

Cleaning mop was really horrible and it was a total bad planning. It should have been one long running line for a vest, felted out of precious Kid Mohair. What came out of it was a fluffy-something in a greyish blue-green.

Bei den Blossom Feets gab ich mir mit der Anleitung ziemlich viel Mühe, auch wenn sie nicht vollkommen war weil wichtige Fakten fehlten. Das verwendete Garn war keine Neufärbung, sondern ein wilder Griff in die Restekiste. Beteiligte Knäuel waren der Sultan, der Pfefferminz Prinz und Wilder Mohn, gemeinsam in Ringelreihen und dem traditionellen norwegischen "Läusemuster" verstrickt.

With the instruction for Blossom Feet I really gave my best, even though it wasn't absolutely completed because some of the important facts were missing. The yarn that I used wasn't a new colourway, but just a wild card from the remnant box. The skeins involved were Sultan, Pfefferminz Prinz and Wilder Mohn, knit together in stripes and in the traditional Norwegian "Louse pattern".

einen zweiten zu stricken. Bei Antje sah ich diese Farbkombination, die mir unglaublich gut gefällt. Ich tauschte nur das Indisch Rot gegen feurigen Chili.

Meinen Möbiuswrap strickte ich ohne Maß und Ziel. Anleitungslos, in blindem Eifer und ohne Notizen zu machen. Ziel war eigentlich nur "one row button holes" zu üben. Zur Zeit faszinieren mich Knopflöcher und verkürzte Reihen in allen Variationen und Einsatzmöglichkeiten.

I knit my Moebius Wrap without any measurement or any goals. Pattern-less, in blind fervour and without making any notes. The goal was actually to practice making the "one row button holes". At the moment I'm pretty fascinated by button holes and short-rows in all variations and usage possibities.

Hebemaschenmuster stehen seit den Blumenbeetsocken von Angela ganz weit oben auf meiner Ausprobierliste, dicht gefolgt von zweifarbigem Patent und wiederholten Filzversuchen nachdem ich mich an das oben erwähnte Putzlumpenfiasko erinnerte.

Is it the same with you? As soon as I'm interested in a topic, I "knit" myself into it. Slip stitch patterns has been on the top of my priority try-out list ever since the Blumenbeetsocken from Angela. It is closely follwoed by two-toned brioche and the repeated felting experiments after I was reminded of that cleaning utensil fiasco from above.

Ich weiß nicht ob es der Wettergott mit uns allen gut oder schlecht meinte, als er pünktlich zum Urlaubsbeginn die sengende Hitze beendete. Zumindest nutzte ich die Zeit und strickte Blüten anstatt mich um die lebendigen Exemplare zu kümmern. Mit meinen blossom feets mache ich auch beim Wettbewerb der verrücktesten Sommersocke mit.

At least I used the time to knit blossoms instead of taking care of the real-life samples. I'm entering the crazy summer socks contest with my Blossom Feet.

Einfach ein Thema zu bekommen, darüber nachzudenken wie man es umsetzen kann, zu sehen was andere daraus machen und ganz unterschiedliche Richtungen einschlagen (die mir persönlich nicht im Traum eingefallen wären). Meine Favoriten sind die Maiglöckchensocken, habt Ihr schon jemals erotischere Socken gesehen? Wobei Socke + Erotik wohl nicht gegensätzlicher sein können, oder?

I think that the contest is great! Just to get topic, to ponder about it and think about how to put it together, to see how the others are interpreting it and ending up in different directions (directions which would never have occurred to me). My favourites are the Lily of the Valley Socks. Have you ever seen any socks that are more erotic than those? Although socks + erotic just can't be any more different, right?

Bei meinen blumigen Tüfteleien versuchte ich die Entstehung schriftlich fest zu halten, schon allein aus dem Grund einen zweiten Socken stricken zu können und mich nicht nur auf mein Erinnerungsvermögen verlassen zu müssen. Es war schwierig!

Selbst oute ich mich als großen Strickanleitungskritiker, an fast jeder Anleitung habe ich etwas auszusetzen. Reumütig und kleinlaut werde ich in Zukunft etwas leiser damit sein.

Was erwartet Ihr von einer Anleitung?

I tried to put down the development of my finicky bloomy job in writing, even just for the purpose of being able to knit up the twin sock without having to rely only on my memories. It was hard! I have to declare that I'm a big critique of written patterns myself; I always find something to complain about in almost all written pattern. Repentant and meek, I now know better and won't be so outspoken about it again in the future.

Es werden 7 Halbkreise mit je 8 Maschen gestrickt. Ein Halbkreis besteht aus drei Segmenten (Tortenstück oder Dreieck)

You will be knitting 7 half-circles with 8 stitches each. A half-circle is made out of three sections (a slice of cake or a triangle).

Das erste Dreieck ist fertig. Mit den gleichen 8 Maschen nach den Angaben für das erste Dreieck das zweite und dritte genauso stricken. Bei dem zweiten Bild verwendete ich unterschiedliche Farben um die drei Dreiecke, die einen Halbkreis bilden, deutlicher zu zeigen.

The first triangle is now finished. Knit the second and third triangles using the same pattern as the first triangle. In the second picture I used different colours for each triangle that builds up the half-circle in order to show you the process more clearly.

Der zweite Halbkreis wird mit Masche 9-16 gestrickt, der dritte mit Masche 17-24 usw. bis es 7 Halbkreise sind und alle angeschlagenen 56 Maschen verstrickt wurden.

The second half-circle is knit with 9-16 stitches. The third with 17-24 stitches and so forth and so on, until there are 7 half-circles altogether and all the 56 CO stitches are knit.

Mit einer leeren Nadel werden nun die ersten 8 Maschen abgehoben, sie reichen bis zur Mitte eines Halbkreises. Aus dem Rand der zweiten Hälfte strickt man 8 Maschen.

The first 8 stitches are then slipped with an empty needle, this should go to about the middle of the half-circle. Knit 8 stitches from the edge of the second half.

Die nächsten 8 Maschen werden mit einer dritten Nadel abgehoben und nach links geklappt.

The next 8 stitches are then slipped with a thrid needle and then folded to the left.

Nun liegen die Halbkreise überlappend vor einem und gleichzeitig 2 Nadeln beieinander.

The half-circlees are now laid overlapped on another and at the same time the 2 needles are beside each other.

Von diesen beiden Nadeln werden 8 Maschen mit der "three needle bind off" Methode gemeinsam rechts abgestrickt aber nicht abgekettet.

8 stitches from these two needles are going to be knit together with the "three-needles bind off" method, but do not bind off the stitches.

Arbeit wenden und 8 Maschen rechts stricken

Turn the whole work and knit 8 stitches.

Jetzt können erneut 8 Maschen aus dem Rand des nächsten Kreises gestrickt werden und auf die gleiche Art und Weise, wie gerade eben beschrieben, überlappend zusammengestrickt werden.

Now you can knit another 8 stitches from the edge of the next circle, folding them and then knitting them together following the pattern above.

Wenn alle Halbkreise verbunden sind, muß der Kreis geschlossen werden. Dafür strickt man die letzten und die ersten 8 Maschen überlappend zusammen. Die 56 Maschen verteilte ich gleichmäßig auf vier Nadeln und nahm in der ersten Schaftrunde noch pro Nadel 2 Maschen zu.

The circle should be closed when all the circles are joined together. To do this, you knit the last and the first 8 stitches overlapped together. The 56 stitches are distributed evenly over four needles/DPNs. You will also need to increase 2 stitches on each needles in the first round of knitting.

So sollte der fertige Blütenrand aussehen. Seid flexibel wenn dem nicht so ist und freut Euch etwas Neues geschaffen zu haben.

And the finished Blooming edge should look so. Be flexible when it's not exactly like the picture and just be happy that you have created something new!

Verarbeitet zu farbenfrohen Decken, Taschen und Kissen sah ich die Werke wachsen, bekam aber niemals die fertigen Stücke zu Gesicht. Garantiert liegt es daran daß ich nicht so häufig Blogrunden mache und einfach die Fertigstellungen versäumte (bestimmt auch das Gefluche beim Vernähen der tausend Fäden)

I saw them worked into a colourful blanket, bag and pillows and I saw the works grew. However I never get to see the FOs. I can guarantee you that it must be because I don't go around reading the blogs and so I missed all the finishings (and probably I also missed all the swearing while darning in thousands of ends).

Meine Decke wurde oft und ausgiebig belächelt. Das macht mir aber nicht viel aus, weil ich stolz darauf bin diese Arbeit zu Ende gebracht zu haben. Es reizte mich ungemein viele meiner Farben miteinander zu mischen und auszuprobieren. Auf dem Wohnzimmerboden lagen sie, akurat wie auf dem Fischmarkt sortiert nur wohlriechender, und blockierten für Tage die Lauffläche. Schade daß ich damals keine Bilder machte.

My blanket has been a means of an abundance of jokes. But it didn't matter to me because I'm proud to have finished this piece. It drove me to mix up all my colours together and to just try it out. It lies on the living room floor as accurately as fish can be arranged at a fish market and blocked the way for days on end. It's a shame that I didn't take any photos.

Danke für die netten Kommentare! Natürlich erzähle ich noch gerne etwas zur Entstehung und zeige schonungslosere Bilder. Gut daß man den weißen provisorischen Gummizug bei diesen Bildern auch noch nicht durchscheinen sieht. Es war eindeutig zu heiß die letzten Tage um in der Stadt nach professionellerem Zubehör zu suchen.

Wie man deutlich sieht, strickte ich den Rock nicht gerade hoch, sondern mit einer Verjüngung bei der Taille. Es ist kein Hexenwerk einen gut sitzenden Rock zu stricken.

As you can see cleary, I didn't knit the skirt straight up, but with a bit of an age-reducing help around the waiste. It's no Hocus Pocus to knit a good and fitting skirt.

Die Grundregel:

The basic rules:

Messe Deine knackigste Stelle um die Hüften und die Taille ( im bestmöglichsten Fall ist eine Differenz zu erkennen). Die Länge von der Taille bis zur knackigsten Stelle dürften ca. 15-20 cm sein, verteile die Ab- oder Zunahmen (je nachdem ob von oben oder von unten gestrickt) gleichmäßig. Die restliche Länge bis zum Saum wird gerade gestrickt. Wichtig bei gestrickten Röcken, bitte füttern, sonst "klebt" der Rock! So schlimm ist das nicht, nehmt die gleichen Maße wie bei dem Strickrock und gebt noch ca. 2 cm seitlich zu. Die überschüssige Weite mogelt man beim Bund durch Abnäher oder gelegten Falten weg. Rock und Futter werden rechts auf rechts verstürzt zusammen genäht, eine zweite Naht weiter unten ermöglicht den Tunnel für den Gummizug. Vergeßt bitte nicht beim Futtersaum einen Gehschlitz mit einzubauen, ab und zu hat Frau es doch mal eilig und möchte gerne laufen und nicht schreiten.

Measure your firmest area around the hips and the waiste (in the most favourable condition there should be some noticeable difference). The length of the waiste to the firmest part should be about 15-20 cm. Distribute the increases or decreases evenly (depending on whether you're kntting from the top or from the bottom). The rest of the length until the hemline will be knit straight. The important thing about a knitted skirt is to line it, otherwise the skirt will "stick"! It's not that hard! Take the same measuremeant like with the knitted skirt and allow about 2 cm extra on the side. The extra width can be concealed with a band using darts or clever creases. Skirt and linings will be sewn together turned over on the correct side, a second seam lower allows a tunnel for the elastic band. Don't forget to build in a slit for walking room down at the lining seam. Sometimes a girl can be in a hurry and has to run instead of just walking.

Liebe Karen Du frägst nach Mustern und ob ich sie mir selbst ausdenke. Das Muster für den Rock ja, die Strickmuster holte ich mir aber aus Strickgrundlagenbüchern. Ich glaube kaum daß es eine Masche gibt, die noch nie gestrickt wurde, selbst bei Strickfehlern ist das so. Es ist so schön mit gutem Handwerkszeug, sprich erprobtem Strickerwissen und Mustern, selbst zu jonglieren. Traut Euch, kauft trotzdem wunderschöne Strickbücher und laßt Euch inspirieren und entwickelt die Ideen weiter.

Dear Karen, you asked for the pattern and whether I've designed it myself. The pattern for the skirt yes, but the knit pattern I got from pattern books. I hardly think that there's a stitch pattern that has never been knitted yet, even with knit failures. It is so beautiful to juggle around with good materials such as tried-and-true knitting knowledges and patterns yourself. Don't be afraid! Just go out and get those wonderful knitting books and let yourselves be inpired and develop the ideas futher.

Anscheinend war es ein Schock daß mein Babygarn sich verändern wird. Den Rock strickte ich bereits mit dem neuen Garn und ich empfand es als noch besser, als das ursprüngliche. Es ist etwas dünner, aber ich betrachte es als Vorteil. Shawls sollen nicht wie mit dem Gewicht von "Mühlsäcken" auf den Schultern lasten ( Ach ja, bei meiner Siesta beginne ich mit meinem dreiwöchigen Rückenschulungstraining, das Buch liegt auf dem Nachtkastl!), sondern luftig leicht umhüllen.

Apparently it was a shock that my Baby-yarn will be substituted. I knit the skirt already with the new yarn and I found it even better than the original. It is a bit thinner but I look at it as an advantage. Shawls shouldn't weigh like potato sacks on the shoulders (oh, and BTW my Siesta began with three-weeks back training; the book is on my night table!), but it shoudld wrap up lofty and light around you.

Tango mon amour

Letztes Weihnachtsfest bekam ich einen Tanzkurs von meiner Familie geschenkt, nicht wissend ob ich mich darüber freuen oder eher Angst haben soll. Erinnerungen an Tanzstunden in der Schule wurden wach, schweißnasse Hände und schmerzende Füße. Es existiert noch ein Bild vom Abschlußball, welches nicht ganz grundlos in den Tiefen einer Kiste vergraben wurde.

Last Christmas I got a dance lesson as a present from my family. I wasn't sure whether I should be happy about it or be afraid of it. Memories of the dance lessons in the school seem vivid again: sweaty hands and aching feet. One picture from the End-0f-Year-Ball still exists...and there's a good reason that it's buried deep in a box.

Gereifter und immer noch ohne den notwendigen Ernst an der Sache begaben wir uns zu den ersten Lektionen der harmonischen Körperbewegung. Was soll ich sagen, in mir schlummert eine Latinoseele, Cha-Cha wurde mein zweiter Name.

However I'm still at daggers drawn with the pièce de résistance of dance techniques: The Tango. I really doubt that I could ever deliver this dance with such abandon and feeling. Would I have to wait even longer to get that longed for pair of red shoes; to be able to put on a disc with "Mano a Mano" and to just melt with it? Definitely NO. Explanation ensues!

Diesen Blogeintrag wollte ich eigentlich mit einem dramatischen Opening-Bild beginnen, einer Baccara-Rose eingeklemmt in einem Gebiß. Meine Angst vor dem Zahnarzt (einzige Quelle um an ein Gebiß zu kommen) verhinderte dieses Vorhaben. Ihr müßt Euch die Rose im Gebiß vorstellen, Parkett das Feuer fängt wie bei Mortitia und die notwendige Musik dazu auch.
Vielleicht versteht Ihr dann was mich zu meinem Rock und den dazu gehörigen Sächelchen bewog.

Actually I wanted this post to begin with a dramatic opening picture: A Baccara Rose held in the teeth. However my fear of dentists (the only place that you can come by a set of dentures) took care of this idea for me. You yourselves will just have to imagine the rose held between the teeth, the dance floor that catches fire like with Mortitia and the accompanying music. Maybe then you would understand what drove me to wear my skirt and that "little thing".

Meine Tangoschuhe, diesmal selbst gekauft, und mein neuer Lace-Shawl

Ausgangspunkt um überhaupt zu stricken war die Tatsache, daß sich mein Babygarn dem Ende neigt und nur noch Restbestände vorhanden sind. Babygarn, so wie ich es bisher hatte, wird es leider nicht mehr geben. Dafür probierte ich mit dem "Nachfolger", einem Teststrang, den Laceshawl und mit einem zweiten Strang den Rock. Das Garn ist um eine Nuance dünner, genauso weich und einfach perfekt für lacige Strickereien.

The starting point of knitting is the fact that I'm running out of my Baby-Yarn and that there are only some remainder of the stock left there. The Baby-Yarn as I know it will be discontinued. But as the substitute, I'm trying the shawl out on the "successor", a test skein, and with a second skein I made the skirt. The yarn is just a tad thinner, but it's just as soft and absolutely perfect for those lacey knits.

Es ist Geschmackssache ob man sich einen Netzrock daraus strickt und ich gebe zu er sieht etwas unvorteilhaft aus und zaubert ein paar mehr Pfund auf die Hüften. Von meinem Laceshawl bin ich restlos begeistert. Bei der Pfefferminz Prinz Jacke übte ich das erste Mal das Perlen-Einstricken, bei dem Laceshawl und dem Rock verwendete ich diese Technik wieder. Rock und Shawl fallen durch das Gewicht der Perlen viel schöner, ähnlich wie bei der bekannten Gardine mit der Goldkante (Namen möchte ich an dieser Stelle nicht nennen). Urteilt selbst, die Bilder sind dieses Mal nicht besonders gut geworden und die Farben nicht naturgetreu, ein wenig kann man aber bestimmt erkennen.

It's a matter of taste whether you would knit a net-skirt out of it and I have to admit that it looks pretty much unfavourable and it also magically conjures up a couple more pounds around the waiste. But I'm absolutely thrilled with the lace shawl. I was just practicing beading with the Pfefferminz Prinz Jacket and I used the technique again with the lace shawl and the skirt. Both garments drape a lot more beautifully with the weight of the beads. It even reminds me of the curtains with gold edgings (I don't want to mention the name at this point). Judge for yourselves. The pictures didn't turn out that great and the colours doesn't show as in real life, but you can still see it a bit.
